PETER SCHREYER WINS AUTOCAR'S STURMEY AWARD FOR HIS DESIGN REVOLUTION

Ten years after Peter Schreyer was recruited to change Kia's entire design strategy and turn the marque into a design-led brand his efforts have been recognised with the presentation of Autocar's Sturmey Award.

As one of Autocar's most highly regarded Awards - given for outstanding personal achievement over a considerable period - the Sturmey Award recognises the total and complete revolution Schreyer undertook in design terms at Kia. It also recognises that he continued that work with Hyundai and the company's new Genesis luxury brand.

Autocar Editor, Mark Tisshaw commented: "This Award is named after Henry Sturmey - our founder - and is given only to exceptional people who we think have made a significant and very personal impact on the automotive world. What Peter Schreyer has done since joining Kia is nothing short of phenomenal - he has made Kia a stand-out brand in design terms and has expanded that creativity to Hyundai and Genesis to the point where everyone in the industry has to take notice of every new vehicle to come from this stable."

Peter Schreyer said: "This is a very humbling recognition to receive because it is so clearly individual and carefully considered. As a designer I do what I do because I love cars, I love this industry and I believe that the focus of our work should be to create strong, attractive and exciting products that deliver pride of ownership to our customers. To have been given the trust to completely change the look of Kia and then Hyundai and Genesis was reward in itself, but to receive this recognition from the world's oldest car enthusiast magazine is simply thrilling!"

The Sturmey Award was presented at Autocar's Annual Award ceremony at the Silverstone Wing on Tuesday 23 May.
